Questo è il kit Ducati Performances dedicato agli air box Desmodue. Si tratta di una cornice filtro (è un coperchio air box modificato) ed un filtro aria ad alta efficienza. Volendo risparmiare qualcosa è possibile elaborare un coperchio air box preso usato ed acquistare un filtro aria ad alta efficienza dedicato al mondo auto (WV Polo GT vecchia serie).

La modifica al coperchio air box illustrata in questa pagina web permette di avere un coperchio air box ad alta efficienza ma che nel contempo permette di proteggere al meglio il filtro dell'aria da sporcizia ed acqua in caso di pioggia.

This is the Ducati Performances air box kit for Desmodue engines. It's a frame (a modifyed air box cover) and a hig performances air filter. If you want to save some money, it's possible to modify an original air box cover - you can buy it used - and buy a hig performances air filter from car tuning world (WV Polo GT old series).

The modification described here permits to have an hig performance air box cover that at the same time protects as well the air filter from dirty and water if it rain.

This is the work at the end... this picture permits to understand clearly how you will do the cut on the air box cover. The top area on the picture faces the front of the bike.

   

Con la punta di un saldatore a stagno - ben calda - incidete superficialmente il profilo del taglio. Non è necessario forzare, appoggiando la punta del saldatore otterrete già un segno netto e preciso.

With the point of the soldering iron - very hot - you lance the air box cover on the surface. You may not force the point on the cover, only leaning the point on it, you will have a clean and exact sign.
   
Dopo aver inciso con precisione il profilo del taglio, iniziate a ripassarlo, fino a quando la plastica non inizia a fondere e si provocherà il distacco della parte centrale. Per avere un taglio preciso ci vorrà un pò di pazienza, ma il risultato finale sarà migliore.

After you have lance the silhouette of the cut, start to pass again the incision, until the plastic will start to melt and the central part of the cover will detach from the body. To have an exact cut, and a nice result, you must work very slowy and with patience.

   

Rifinite quindi la zona di taglio sul coperchio con un taglierino per eliminare gli eccessi di plastica fusa e quindi con della carta abrasiva per pareggiare e levigare uniformemente la zona di taglio.

Una volta montato il coperchio modificato dell'air box, sia con un filtro aria originale che con un filtro ad alte prestazioni, sarà necessario adeguare la carburazione, istallando un kit dedicato per carburatori (es. kit Dynojet) oppure modificare la mappatura per i modelli ad iniezione elettronica. Per questi ultimi, almeno fino al momento in cui non si avrà una mappatura adeguata, è possibile regolare il tenore del Co ingrassandolo, in modo da non avere problemi di smagrimenti eccessivi.

Now you can finish off the cut area of the air box cover using a cutter to remove the remaining melt plastic. Finish off the cover with some sandpaper to smooth the cutting area.

With a tuned air box, with an original or hig performances air filter, you must set the carburation. You can install a carburator kit (like the Dynojet one's) or modify the ECU map. In particular, if you have an e.i. bike, you can set the CO to avoid dangerous problem with a lean fuel mixture, before properly mapping your ECU.
